If what you have read has not convinced you, check out what other hockey referees are saying about our programs.

I'll share my all time favorite testimony first:

"I want to say that Ultimate Official is the greatest group I've ever been in.  You guys make me feel inclusive and are very positive, I loved
that.  Keep at bringing it!  You guys will go far!"

"I just received notice that I will be representing D6, and working the JGA state tournament next weekend in Edina, as a linesman.  We are working the 4pm game at Braemar West, and I'll mention that the referee on my crew has worked with you in the past/present as well!  You are doing a great things with your programs, and I truly believe that the things I have achieved since adopting your trainings, diets, and work ethics is a direct relation to what I have learned from you!"

"When I first met you, I did not really know what to expect.  However, now that I have had some time to digest the experience of the Camp I know you to be a passionate, driven and very creative person.  You have shown me your reserved and caring sides.  I want to thank you for all the time I have had the privilege of being around you, the things you have shown me and the way in which you have done everything.

Honestly, the two things that stand out to me are when you happened to sit and eat lunch with me, and the other was when I asked the question in the "Pit" session.  It was during the Pit session and your closing statement that I came to believe what a remarkable individual you are that you have shared your time with me to help me.  I hope one day that you will see how much your energy, temperament and passion have helped me so that I can hlep others who share our passion.

While we were there, I know that the purpose was to be an instructor, but I believe I have gotten so much more out of the camp other than an instructor, I was inspired to be a better person.  Thank you."

"The UO guys are obvious to spot. I witnessed it for myself at Nationals in New Jersey and without knowing much about UO at the time. Specifically Nick Biondich, who I felt was the most impressive of the bunch and he was among a very experienced group that included ECAC, NAHL and USHL officials.

Nick was on point both on and off the ice and was a complete professional, yet very much humble guy. Not only did I learn from him, I made a great friend in the process.

You could clearly see his desire and work ethic to improve every shift, not every game, but every shift, and to make J.B. proud. I think he did more than that.

Keep the fire burning and compete at everything you guys do!"

"Got your book a couple weeks back, and finally started reading it last night. Got to page 40 for now and will read more tonight. I started reading it and thought this is great. However, one part really struck a cord with me. The part about sacrificing your body for the good of the team. My dad used to always say to me, "hey get going, the Fargo North linemen are out running and lifting!"

I had that drive in the back in my mind always thinking about my competition. Well, 7 years later, i have lost that fight. I have become mentally tough over the years, and grew some thick skin, but until I read the part where you say, be like a hockey player on a team, and make some sacrifices for the team of officials. It hit me like a ton of bricks."

"Thanks for the power skating this weekend. You are the man. I could tell that has helped me already and I can't wait for my first game this season. All the little tips you gave are great and will definitly improve my game at the youth, high school, and college. I can't thank you enough. Have a great season and I look foward to watching you this season."

"I am going to try not to make this sound like bragging, but I am proud of myself.

I went to Western Regional camp this summer, and had a wake-up call.  I did well and got to work the final day, but finished around middle-of-the-pack and my skating times were below average for the participants there.  I knew that wasn’t going to be satisfactory for the places I want to go.

My workouts before camp consisted of lots of long-distance running and light lifting. Its clear that wasn’t working, I knew something had to change so I started doing shorter sprints and heavier leg lifts.

Then JB came with the P90x stuff and the treadmill.  I went through the first round of treadmill and made it through 3.25 weeks of P90x before Officiating Development Program camp.  I have been doing stuff on inlines as well.  Working a lot on trying to get quicker starts as I think that is a big downfall I have, as well as working towards the 3:00 drill.  That is the same thing as the 2.0 Mile run for me.  I train for it a couple weeks ahead of time and then don’t bother with it for a year.

I got my skating times to top 25% at the camp, shaved what I believe to be nearly ½ a second of my 40yard forward sprint (down to under 5!) got my backward time down as well and added 1.5 laps to the hell-on-ice “3:00 drill.” I was really proud of that.  During the ice sessions a lot of guys were complaining about the difficulty of the skating, but even though I was tired and breathing heavy, I never felt gassed like last year.  I had stamina for not only the whole 3:00 drill but also the whole camp.  My recovery time has gone down considerably and I feel like I have a much stronger more efficient stride.  My legs no longer felt like jelly each night after camp.

I am not trying to make this sound like a brag sheet, just saying this stuff is working!"

"Just want to let you know I learned a ton from your power skating sessions.  The ice sessions were fantastic."

“I just called to tell you that I thought those workouts were great.  I could really feel it working.  It was great.  After doing a few sets, I was huffing and puffing, and I was sweating.  I really liked how the forced you to focus on the knee bend and the upper body posture, which really helps with skating.”

“I honestly cant say enough about the 3 hours on the ice.  It was truely eye opening and educational. It was enlighten to break down skating to its simple form.  In 3 hours I learned more about power skating, than in 10 years.  I thought I was a complete skater before I started, I quickly found out I was mistaken (20 year skater)  This isnt the typical "skate till you drop" power skating class, it focuses on form and technique.”

“I participated in JB's Power Skating Class in Lake Placid, NY and he was one of the most powerful, motivational and detailed trainers I have had the pleasure to work with in my 22 yrs of officiating. He was able to reach the entire group of officials and consistently keep everyone interested and excited. JB's attention to detail and deep knowledge of Power Skating was the key to his success.”

“The ability to teach a skill requires the breakdown and rebuilding of information...to enable students to comprehend the skill....inspiration to better ones ability comes from personal desire and the teachers ability to show the endpoints of practice...improving on the most basic aspects of skating....balance,edge,stride and posture awareness....revealing to the student the importance of off ice training and showing by example the impact on ones improvement on the ice....you ...JB...do possess all the qualities of the truly gifted teachers...inspiring there students to improve.”

Kathleen Smith

“J.B.  You showed me drills that I thought there was no way I could do.  Backward inside cuts, never seen that before.  Being [first in line].  I got to go first, and to the blue was hard.  After that it became a bit easier, then I was actually starting to get it. The key was stay with it until the end boards.”

"Wow! What a great experience! I have been skating most of my life and no one is better at explaining and really teaching the mechanics of ice skating for hockey players. When I did something wrong , JB helped me and my skating really improved.  It was smoothly run and professional from beginning to end.  I feel all referees need to do a power skating class with JB, he corrected my habits.  Thank you"

“After spending a couple of hours on the ice learning the basics of power skating from JB, I learned how inefficient a skater I really was. JB demonstrated the drills to perfection and supplied great insite to what you should be feeling when performing his drills. By applying the lessons learned from JB, I can feel myself becoming a stronger, more powerful, and efficient skater. This helps to ensure I am in the right position, at the right time, to make the right call. I have no doubt I will be a better official because of what I have learned about power skating from JB. Thanks JB, for everything!”

“I have seen quite a few power skating instructors in my life and JB was by far the most dynamic in his delivery; giving a wide variety of instructional methods and being able to demo them to a tee.  You can tell that his passion for the game reflects in his instruction.”

Chris Allman

“I have had the pleasure of attending 2 of JB's power skating seminars thru USA Hockey. With your dedication and hard work JB will be able to coach you to improve your skating ability thru his "BOOM" training. JB will give you the courage to skate to the edge your ability so you can become the ultimate official!”

“J.B. has an innate sense of when to push, and when to back off, that gets students to go beyond their self-imposed limitations.”

(Following are confidential responses after various camps I instructed - good and bad...who shows you the bad stuff??? I do.):

For myself I felt a lot of it was good review for me.  I will promise you that I will bring the ideas you gave me back home and continue to work on them.

No complaints, power skating was very helpful, I think it will help me in the off season and hopefully my weakest point can become my strongest.

The ice sessions were a lot of hard work.  But I feel they will make me a better official.

The power skating sessions were a good way to train on the ice. Very good!  I used muscles that I haven’t used in years or at all.

Instructors did a great job in helping and showing us slowly so we can use and train on our own in the future.  It was very helpful to break down the skating technique.

I’ve developed bad habits over the years and after camp I am back to a good, powerful stride.

I liked the power skating Very challenging and informative.  Humbling.  Would have been nice to see others helping w/teaching to see slightly different style of skating.

Our on-ice sessions went well.  I felt like all the instructors helped me at different points throughout the week.

Very helpful…I think that the power skating classes should be held in each district about twice per month.  This would help officials to work on it along with supervision.

Nice.  Quick and to the point.  I am sore all over my body.  Sometimes I would have liked to do more, maybe 1.5 hours or 2 at most.

Very purposeful ice sessions.

Very informative.  Officials skating techniques taught very well-easy to learn from.

Very challenging-I like it.

Great sessions.  I don’t think I will find anything like it and will take everything back home to teach and share.

Skating instruction superb.

Challenging. Great instruction.

Great times on the ice.  We worked hard and learned very valuable skills to use and pass on, a lot of stuff that was never taught or told to me before.

Great power skating lessons.  I really understand what I need to do in order to attain a higher level of performance and games.  Maybe put together a document w/the skating drills so you have it for after class has completed.

I have never been through an on ice power skate or camp where I have learned so many things as this camp.

Great stuff I have never heard until now.  It will definitely help my skating abilities and help others down the road.

The power skating was very beneficial.  I walked into this camp with power skating skills.  I learned a lot in these 5 days and I will use those skills for the rest of my life.  They are the building blocks of skating.

Great power skating lessons. I learned a lot about my skating stride to improve efficiency and speed.

Very helpful in helping w/improve as a skater and as an official.

So many useful tips and thoughts that will stick w/me for quite some time. Skating techniques very useful, all aspects very beneficial and enjoyable.

Good mix of work and play to keep it enjoyable.

On ice sessions were very helpful and challenging.  I definitely learned about what kind of skater I am and where I need to improve.

I think power skating is helpful and enlightening about where you need to improve. This I felt was one of the most important parts to the camp.

Power Skating...everyone thinks the can skate, but with the little thing that makes it easier and make you look better as an official will help us all out in the future.

I learned a lot about power skating and how to change from hockey skating to power skating.

Power skating opened my eyes to my weak points and helped immensely.Have a strength in skating and helped me to develop better.

I wish we had more time, but the time was spent wisely.

Good that we skate every day.  Need to other than basic balance, power skate, start and stop. I was expecting not so much on power skating.  It is very important, but I was looking for more game situation positioning and instruction.

Very well structured.  Good development.  Could have been there longer( I know there is limited time)

Would love to see a 2-3 day camp just on skating for officials from USA Hockey.

JB was very organized and other instructors helped correct and tweak little things.

It was great to have games to practice what we learned on ice. Were very fun and I learned a lot.

Power skating drills were very helpful.  I felt the instruction on the ice was very beneficial to my skating, positioning, and awareness around the rink.  The drills are something that I can continually work to improve.

Great. New techniques taught and opportunities to apply them.

It would be nice to have more on ice and less classroom.

I wanted to get better and they gave me the tools to get better.

Games were all fun to work.  I learned a lot.

Power skating was great.

JB is an awesome power skating instructor. Just the right amount of time to keep everyone interested.  Length of teaching each skill was good.

JB did a great job with power skating.  I am especially eager to learn how to skate!

JB did an excellent job with skating.

Learned a lot about skating.  Seemed to be short.  Instructors watch drills sometimes would talk with each other about someone doing something wrong, but not talk to official to fix it.

Great for mechanics. They were a great teaching tool, but there was maybe a little too much skating goal line to goal line and standing around.

Great-loved the power skating sessions-really like getting “back to the basics”. The arena sessions were great.

The power skating showed me a lot of great techniques for skating. I have never learned more about reffing in my life.  They did things that I didn’t know people could do.

I’m not a morning guy and to jog to the rink and be on the ice at 6:45 sucked.  It did make me realize, on the ice, I am a very inefficient skater.

Excellent power skating instruction.  Good use of time.  Always more time for Billy Ball if you want.

Very well organized.  Kept everything moving in a fast paced progression of skills and drills.  Worked with a lot of people 1 on 1 ration on the little things. I learned a lot of skating drills to improve my skating.

I put a “9” on my initial rating for skating.  But now I see I need a lot more practice.  I learned a lot at this.Power Skating is/was very good.  This is one of the things helps you get to the next level.

The power skating sessions were well organized and also presented well.  Skating work was extremely beneficial.

Power skating classes are most beneficial to me.  I have always wanted to learn and practice the turns I see the upper officials do.  These are great keys to game that are not taught locally.   It helped a lot doing all of the power skating and emphasizing it.

I can already tell a difference from working on that stuff every morning.  Hard working.  I improved my skating because of it.

Ice sessions are great to work on power skating, edges and balance.  Great input from the instructors on what it takes to get to the next level.  Their insight and feedback are very appreciated.

Would have liked more power skating.

Individual instruction on technique seemed to be given to those only who were struggling.

Ice time was used to the full advantage.  Skills that were taught will be useful for real game situations.  All skating drills used are needed in a game situation.

I have never been a great power skater, but I felt at this camp I bettered myself and learned some very important tips and what to work on.

We had the best ice every day.  Sometimes sacrifices (5am wake up) are worth it.  Also, the teaching during the sessions were very beneficial.
